Carl Heastie has served as Speaker of the New York State Assembly since 2015, the first Black Speaker in New York history. He has represented Assembly District 83 in the Bronx since 2001. As Speaker, he has championed progressive legislation including the CLCPA, bail reform, and expanded worker protections.
